Following a kitchen fire, Paynters was engaged on a Managed Cost basis to complete the remedial works in a heritage building on a busy street in Melbourne. The fire caused significant damage to both restaurant levels, including the kitchen, dining areas, and back office.

On approval of the works, Paynters Design Manager worked closely with the Heritage Architect, as the project went through a rigorous approval process due to the building requiring several code compliance upgrades while maintaining the strict heritage prerequisites implemented by the council.

The works involved bringing the restaurant back to its bare shell, decontaminating all soot from the building and installing a new roof and frame.

Internally, all wall framing, ceilings, and partitions required replacement and a new kitchen and amenities.

Paynters successfully completed the project under budget and minimized the COVID program delays even with site access restrictions. The key to this success was detailed planning of material deliveries and efficient use of the labour resources.
