Farewell, Jen Budzynski

After an incredible 13 years with Paynters and a 47-year career, our much-loved Receptionist & Administration Assistant, Jennifer Budzynski, is officially hanging up the phone and heading into retirement.
Jen has truly been the face of Paynters for so many of us. A constant, a trusted presence, and often the very first point of connection for our team, clients and partners. Whether it was a warm welcome at reception, a friendly voice on the other end of the phone, or quietly keeping things running behind the scenes, Jen has helped shape the experience of our business in more ways than can be counted.
While we’ll certainly miss seeing her at the front desk each day, we’re excited for Jen as she begins this well-earned next chapter filled with more time for family, friends, travel and everything retirement has to offer.
Thank you, Jen, for your incredible contribution over the past 13 years. Your presence, kindness and support have meant so much to so many, and you’ll always be part of the Paynters family.
Wishing you all the very best in retirement — you’ve earned it!
Jen’s Career Journey:
- 1979 – Left school and started working for a fertiliser company on a trial, they were super impressed with her so she was quickly offered a three-month contract in an administration role.
- 1979-1986 – Moved into the finance industry, spending seven years building her administration and customer service experience.
- 1986-1987 – Travelled through Europe and lived in London for a year, working across a range of businesses including a hardware company.
- 1987-2003 – Joined Balmain Commercial, where she spent 16 years and became part of what she describes as a “family”. During this time, she travelled extensively for company conferences and events, visiting destinations including Queenstown, Uluru, Port Stephens, Hayman Island, Singapore and Sanctuary Cove.
- 2003-2013 – Held a variety of administration and office support roles.
- 2013 – Joined Paynters after interviewing with Brett Johnston and Dean Scott. Despite coming from a finance background, she embraced the challenge of learning the construction industry and quickly made the role her own.
- 2013-2026 – Became a very familiar and friendly face of the business, welcoming visitors, accepting deliveries, supporting teams and helping create the positive culture that defines Paynters today.
- 2026 – Beginning a well-earned retirement after an incredible 47-year career.
We sat down with Jen to look back on her career, share a few favourite memories and hear what she’s looking forward to in retirement:
- Why did you choose a career in administration and reception?
I always enjoyed office work and loved being on reception because it meant meeting and talking to people every day. It suited my personality perfectly. I enjoyed presenting myself professionally, welcoming people with a smile and having a chat. I’ve always loved socialising and connecting with others.
- What are some of your career highlights?
Working in London was a huge highlight. I also spent a week working on the Hollywood Reporter, which was a lot of fun. One of my jobs was getting coffee for a particular gentleman who enjoyed a big night out. After only working with him one week, I went to say goodbye, he asked, “Who’s going to get my coffee now?”.
The years at Balmain Commercial were incredibly special too. The conferences, trips and friendships created memories I’ll never forget.
- What’s your funniest Paynters memory?
Without a doubt, karaoke night at South Bank. Sarah Rose, Andrew Spilar and Jack Purdy were all involved, and everyone was fighting over the microphone to sing their hearts out.
- What will you miss most about Paynters and coming to work each day?
The people! There are so many people here that I’ve worked alongside for a long time, and the friendships mean a lot to me. The people are what make this company so special.
- What advice would you give to the next generation?
Have fun, but also save your money! You will need to make sacrifices where you can to try to buy a house. It might take time and discipline, but it’s worth it. Again still have fun!
- What are your retirement plans?
I’m going straight into Pilates and focusing on my health and wellbeing. I’m looking forward to spending more time with friends, taking a trip to Sydney later this year and heading overseas next year.
As a Polish citizen, I’d also love to explore some property opportunities in Poland. And one day, I’d love to work as an usher at the Tennis when the Olympics are on in Brisbane.
