MRI scanner goes to work!
A huge congratulations to the Paynters Townsville University Hospital team on installing the Siemens Magnetom Sola 1.5T MRI Magnet on site over the weekend.
The four tonne MRI scanner had to be lifted into the entrance of the Medical Imaging Department before being assembled by a team of 10. The team conducted initial craning to the hospital entry point and then, using metal floor plates and heavy-duty skates, manoeuvred the scanner internally into position.
Health Board Chair Tony Mooney said “This is a major expansion in our capacity to provide essential medical investigations to help diagnose a range of conditions, including brain tumours, soft tissue injury, multiple sclerosis and infection”.
We are really excited to see the final steps of this project journey reach completion over the next 2 months.
