Central Queensland University – Engineering Refurbishment (Building 28), Rockhampton
Buildings 28 and 29 of Central Queensland University’s (CQU), houses the School of Engineering and provides one of CQU’s most successful degrees.
However in order to seek higher certification and improve academic courses CQU sought funding for a full and complex refurbishment of the two 30-40 year old buildings. The project’s scope included workshops, research spaces, training areas, flexible teaching studios and updating of the old and worn building facade.
The buildings were stripped back to the bare structures leaving just concrete columns and suspended slabs. New framing, cladding and roofing were installed incorporating vastly improved areas for teaching and accessibility. The works included specialist areas for Hydraulics, Thermodynamics, Electrical, Mechanical, Concrete and Structural Engineering and Post Graduate Studies. State of the art IT and audio-visual equipment was installed and all fittings and fixtures have up to date finishes and joinery. These new facilities have ensured that CQU is at the forefront in delivering Engineering graduates in Central Queensland.
