Central Queensland University Mackay City Campus
CQU has been a long term client of Paynters, spanning over 10 years. The relationship has been built on constant communication with all parties, ensuring that the project is delivered on time and to budget. The project team had extensive knowledge of the Education and University sector, with the niche team having delivered over 30 education projects together, allowing them a greater understanding of potential challenges and hurdles that may occur. The main objectives of the CQU project included the provision of spaces that allows for the effective integration of Higher Education and Vocational Education Training (VET) programs to be delivered at the Mackay City Campus. This also meant maintaining operations at the Campus for all faculties and divisions including business and teaching during the construction period.
The refurbishment permitted Paynters to modernise the existing learning facilities as well as provide scope to address future developments. The refurbishment included a library, classrooms, student lounge, collaboration area, cafe and barista training area, beauty salon, nurses teaching and learning spaces, office accommodation and a chiropractic clinic. The project team were also required to incorporate National Strategy for Ecology Sustainable Development (ESD) initiatives. This included passive ventilation/cooling, daylight harvesting, sun control, solar water heating, water harvesting subject to construction budget constraints. The federally funded project and was successfully completed to schedule, with the facilities ready for the first semester of 2016.
