The Cathedral College – Performing Arts Precinct

Paynters delivered the new Performing Arts Precinct for The Cathedral College. This state-of-the-art, two-level facility has been designed to support excellence in performing arts education, providing students with cutting-edge learning and performance spaces.

The ground level features:

• A music room with adjoining music stores
• 5 individual music practice rooms
• Dedicated drama storage areas
• Staff and meeting/lunch rooms, amenities, and a servery
• Circulation spaces designed for flow and accessibility

The centrepiece of the building is a set of three large studios separated by operable walls. These can be transformed into one expansive auditorium space complete with retractable grandstand seating and an extended ceiling height that connects with the upper level.

The upper level includes:

• Production room
• Film and TV teaching room
• 3 General Learning Areas (GLAs)
• Lecture room
• Central control room

A separable portion of the project includes the refurbishment of an existing amenities block to bring it up to modern standards.

From sprung dance floors and acoustic rehearsal rooms to a fully integrated AV system and professional-grade production features, every aspect of the precinct has been carefully considered to support creative learning and performance.

Paynters worked closely with subcontractors and consultants to deliver each element of the project to specification. The collaborative approach ensured optimal performance of each space—whether it’s a solo rehearsal room or a large-scale production set.
