Arthur’s Concrete Pour
We had a very special guest attend site last week at the Townsville Community Learning Centre, where Paynters are delivering the brand new two-storey learning facility and other associated works. Young TCLC student Arthur joined our team to witness a live concrete pour on site, given his fascination with Concrete Trucks.
Arthur was lucky enough to direct the pour and sit in the truck – thanks to our local subcontractor partners at Hanson Australia. It was all smiles from Arthur and his family, who were very grateful he was able to have such a lively, hands-on construction experience!
“Arthur Joe is a year 6 boy from Townsville Community Learning Centre – A State Special School. He has an intellectual impairment and Autism. This year when construction started on the new building beside our classroom Arthur became very interested in what was happening over the fence. He started trying to use the trampoline to jump up and see what was happening over the fence! The teachers at Townsville Community Learning turned Arthur’s interest into a positive motivator and encouraged him to finish his work in order to go for a walk to look at the construction site. It wasn’t long until Arthur was telling us that he was well behaved in the playground (and by all reports he definitely was!) in order to go for a walk to the construction site. We are so proud of Arthur and his incredible effort. We are so grateful to Paynters for giving him the ultimate reward. Words can’t really explain what this meant for Arthur, he hasn’t stopped talking about it since. He truly believes that he can become a concrete truck driver now after that experience.”
