Artifacts in the Making

Cultural awareness and understanding are central to Closing the Gap. At Paynters, we strive to reflect the values of the communities we work with, ensuring every project carries a deeper purpose than the physical build alone.

As part of our Indigenous Aged Care project for Winnam ATSIC, our subcontractor network recently joined Grant Marshall for a hands-on cultural artifacts workshop, using timber sourced directly from the surrounding land. From shaping didgeridoos to crafting boomerangs, the team explored traditional skills while hearing stories and knowledge passed down through generations.

This experience was about more than creating artifacts – it was about strengthening cultural understanding within the Southeast Queensland subcontractor network, with the hope that this learning continues to influence the wider construction industry.

The finished pieces will soon be proudly displayed in the aged care facility, embedding culture, craftsmanship, and connection at the very heart of the project.
