Counter Terrorism official opening in Wacol

As part of the Queensland Government’s $46.7 million Counter Terrorism and Community Safety Centre project at the Westgate Complex, Paynters were engaged as the design & construction partner for the refurbishment of the heritage-listed Jacaranda and Silky Oak buildings.

Today in Wacol, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk & Minister for Police, Mr Mark Ryan, along with our Paynters team, Project Manager Paul Duckworth, Design Manager Scott Salmon & Contracts Administrator Sean Milton-Head unveiled the building, named after former Queensland Police Commissioner, Bob Atkinson.

The morning introduced a refreshed custom-built purpose office and training space that was historically (and now closed) accommodation buildings. The buildings have now been redeployed as office accommodation for the training personnel as part of the state-of-the-art Queensland Police Counter Terrorism and Community Safety Centre, which also turned the first sod today on site.

This project has been an excellent opportunity to harness the extensive experience our Company has in specialised institutional projects with premium clients and associated stakeholders.

Key components of this project were to preserve the heritage aspects of the original buildings whilst modernising the facility to today’s office standards and undertake extensive structural rehabilitation to meet modern Code compliance and the formation of a range of contemporary working environments.

The project has been labelled a fantastic success by all parties involved and the team at Paynters look forward to working alongside the Queensland Police in the near future.
