Now that’s a tank!
Visitors entering the Whitsunday Coast airport will soon be greeted with a mini aquarium as Paynters move the feature into position.
Whilst the Whitsunday Regional Council were busy keeping this fantastic addition a surprise for the local community, Paynters were working late at night to ensure we weren’t letting the cat out of the bag…or should it be fish? Either way, we weren’t going to be the ones to let this escape, so it was a late night moving the tank into position to keep it discrete.
Logistically, this was one for the books. Installation had to be conducted whilst not postponing or delaying the main building component of the project or interrupting flights.
The install took a total of 9 hours coordinating a dual crane lift.
The 43-tonne fish tank (once full) will house 200+ fish (30 different species) in 35,000 litres of water & will open as the only airport in Australia to house this unique aquarium.
The tank you see here is the structural skeleton with the finished joinery facade yet to be revealed. Stay tuned for something truly special!!
