Aged Care & Supported Living

Paynters has successfully delivered NewDirection Care, the world’s first residential aged care micro town community. Working closely with the client and key stakeholders, Paynters was able to design and construct this new concept in dementia care.

This project involved the transformation of a greenfield site into a small house dementia village, featuring 17 low set houses with a total of 120 residential care beds. These homes, each can accommodate 7 or 8 residents and are spread across residential-style streets, creating a unique environment that fosters independence and emphasises maintained abilities rather than disability.

Within the 17 domestic-style houses, thoughtfully furnished in six different styles, residents can enjoy ensuite bedrooms, shared kitchens, laundry facilities, sitting rooms, and front and back yards, all designed to promote a sense of home and familiarity. NewDirection Care offers a unique type of nursing home by prioritising freedom of movement, independence, and choice over the institutional approach, breaking away from conventional nursing homes. The village was designed to resemble a typical Australian suburban setting with a town centre featuring a contemporary cafe, lifestyle, and wellness precinct.
