To accommodate additional enrolments, Paynters was engaged for the design and construction of a new multi-storey learning centre at Calamvale Special School, with the project divided into three separable portions:

  • Early Works – involved obtaining design and building approvals, clearing of the GLC site, provision for new stormwater system, pad cut and fill, and ground piling works.
  • Main Construction Works – included construction of the new GLC building, carpark and pathway extension and upgrade works, new covered walk way links, and the removal of K & L Blocks.
  • Infill of Undercroft – entailing filling the undercroft of the new GLC Building to provide an additional 8 GLA and associated spaces.

Working within the confines of an operational special school presented a set of sensitive challenges. Our priority was to ensure the safety and comfort of the students and staff. This was achieved by a number of measures including strict vehicle access protocol including strictly no vehicle access or deliveries during drop off / pick up times. The site was enclosed by site fencing and solid full height hoarding with child panels at the bottom to ensure children could not climb and enter the site.
