Paynters was engaged by Livingstone Shire Council under a Construct Only contract for Stage 1 of the Community Resource Recovery Centre (CRRC), located at the Yeppoon Landfill.

The project included the below scope of works:

  • Resource Recovery Shed
  • Check-in Shed
  • Regulated Waste Shed
  • Relocation of existing Weighbridge & Gate House
  • Construction of a second Weighbridge
  • Relocation of Staff building & single office building
  • Installation of Electrical, Data, Water & Septic Services
  • Associated road infrastructure

The multi-purpose facility allows better waste management in the Yeppoon region, sorting and diverting reusable, recyclable and recoverable materials to limit any further contributions to landfill. Key considerations of the project were functionality, customer experience and meeting the rapid social changes to ensure waste is seen as a resource rather than something we discard into landfill.

The facility has been purposely constructed with separate bays for residents to place their steel, cardboard, eWaste, car batteries, green waste, cooking oil and items that can be sold in the Yeppoon Reuse Market (previously known as the Tip Shop).

Paynters worked cohesively with the Livingstone Shire Council and Yeppoon Landfill employees to ensure a harmonious work environment, and continuity of operation for the community.

The new and improved layout of the landfill facility has significantly improved traffic safety, as customers and community members will no longer be forced to queue during busy periods on Rockhampton-Yeppoon Road into the facility.

The centre provides a streamlined, and more efficient operation, making it functional for all and a positive, functional addition to the community.
