Insurance

Following the January 2020 hailstorm in Canberra, Paynters was engaged on a Managing Contractor basis to complete the insurance remediation works at 23 and 74 Mildura St, Fyshwick, which was severely damaged by the hail event.

The project involved a roof replacement and compliance upgrade of 36,000m2 of roof sheeting, as well as significant box gutter and eave gutter upgrades. Due to the enormity of the roof size, the works were split into two (2) projects (20,000m2 and 16,000m2), that ran concurrently. Due to the extent of the damage, our team needed to commence works immediately.

An initial visual assessment indicated that roof safety wire and insulation did not currently exist. Our team developed a detailed programme and recommended a code upgrade, which was a requirement of the building approval process for re-roofing.

Whilst the scope of works was reasonably defined, this was a complex project due to the enormity of the damaged areas, the logistical requirements of the tenants and the live environment in which the site operated.

Specialised teams were immediately formed by Paynters from inception to plan, oversee and deliver an outcome that was of the utmost quality. This was achieved by utilising a collaborative approach and a client focused methodology.

Due to the significant extent of damage to the warehouse roofs, a flexible approach was adopted to assess the works early on, in an effort to minimise disruption to the day-to-day operations of the tenants. As some tenants’ businesses supplied fresh and frozen food to major supermarket chains in Australia, shutting down was not an option. A detailed plan was established to define the remediation requirements, taking into account the many logistical complexities that were associated with the works.

On completion, Paynters was pleased to confirm that not one minute of time was lost by any of the tenants involved.
