GovernmentSocial Housing

We’re proud to have delivered another high-quality social housing project for the Department of Housing and Public Works in Kirwan, North Queensland.

The development features 20 thoughtfully designed apartments — 16 one-bedroom and 4 two-bedroom units — built to support vulnerable community members, including seniors and people with mobility needs. Residents also benefit from shared spaces, including a car park, BBQ area, communal gardens, and a yarning circle, encouraging connection and community wellbeing.

The apartments were designed and built to Platinum and Gold standards under the Social Housing Design Guidelines, with a focus on:

  • Accessibility: Step-free thresholds and design features to support residents with mobility needs
  • Comfort & safety: Homes built to last, providing a safe and welcoming environment
  • Acoustic performance: Special glazing treatments to reduce road noise
  • Compliance: Designs meet the latest NCC 2022 requirements while adhering to Housing Guidelines

Innovation & Value

The project incorporated smart design solutions, including the use of a pole-mounted transformer instead of a pad-mounted transformer, saving the client costs and freeing up space for additional communal areas.

The Kirwan Social Housing Development provides safe, accessible, and resilient homes for those who need them most. Through thoughtful design, collaboration, and attention to detail, this project supports long-term community wellbeing and stronger, more inclusive neighbourhoods.
