St Edmund’s College
Following the January 2020 hailstorm in Canberra, Paynters was engaged on a Managed Cost basis to complete the insurance remediation works at St Edmund’s College. The school, built in 1954, suffered severe hail damage to sixteen (16) roofs, across six buildings, totalling more than 8,000m2 of terracotta tiled and metal roof replacements.
Due the extent of the terracotta tile damage to the main building, Paynters acted immediately to ensure the roof was watertight, mitigating any further water ingress. Our team swiftly managed the removal of wet carpets and drying of the classrooms to allow students and staff to return to the school following the Christmas break without disruption.
Subsequent to the make safe and roof replacement, the second stage of repairs required the replacement of 1,000m2 of horsehair plasterboard ceilings, and 1,400m2 of carpet throughout the main building, that was damaged as a result of water ingress.
The school of ~1,000 students plus support staff, remained operational throughout the works. Our team worked closely with school representatives to carefully plan the works, ensuring safe segregation between contractors and staff/students was maintained at all times, and disruption to school operations was minimal. This required close and collaborative communication, as well as forward planning with the school’s stakeholders.
