Paynters team member rescues locals during Townsville floods

Locals in tinnies & kayaks joined forces with the Army, SES, Police and fire crews earlier this week to assist in the rescue of hundreds of people in flooded homes by ferrying them back to dry land.

In amongst these local heroes was Paynters very own employee, Zane Biffanti (pictured), assisting families that were left stranded in their Idalia homes after water rose rapidly. Zane and neighbour Scott were able to get to the Martin family after their pleas for help were shared across social media.

Zane & Scott waded over to the Martin residence in chest deep water during the peak of the flood and on the following day they went looking for a boat via kayak to assist with the rescue.

When asked why he was still within the flooded area whilst others, including his wife, had been evacuated, Zane simply replied, “because there were still people left behind that needed help”.

From all of us here at Paynters, our thoughts are with the Townsville Community during this difficult time. Our North Queensland office is committed to assisting locals wherever we can throughout the recovery and rebuild process.
