The Airlie Beach Foreshore Revitalisation project officially opened with a bang last weekend, hosting the local community to an afternoon of celebrations.

The long-awaited $6.3 million dollar project now offers a walking track stretching from Airlie Beach through to Cannonvale Beach, a gigantic playground, additional car parking & performance stage, 120 market stalls, a half court basketball space,  shaded BBQ areas and ample room for families to play!

Saturday saw bands entertain the crowd throughout the day, while jumping castles, face-painting, and of course the new playground which was part of the revitalisation, kept the youngsters entertained for hours. Markets, beach volleyball and Zumba sessions made sure there was something for everyone at the day, while the fireworks at night wowed the crowd.

Among the official proceedings was a smoking ceremony by Gary Prior and the Ngaro Gia Juru Dance Group, before the dancers performed.

The memorial plaque for the revitalisation was also unveiled by Whitsunday Regional Council mayor Andrew Wilcox and State Member for Mackay and Assistant Minister for State Development, Julieanne Gilbert.

The space, as showcased within the video below, encapsulates what the region has to offer & the locals couldn’t be happier now that it’s open!
